As we known, in order to export the low-grade nickel (NI<1.7%), mining companies must obtain an export recommendation (every 12 months for up to 5 years) and comply with the additional requirements, for instance, any export of low-grade nickel can only occur after at least 30% of the total nickel smelting capacity has been utilized for that low-grade nickel since 12 January 2017.As it was reported previously, Indonesian mining companies may export up to 5.2 million tons of nickel ore per year under the country’s new rules, which means the export volume is actually only a small fraction of total nickel ore in whole Indonesia. FerroAlloyNet has learnt that there’re about 11 smelters applying for the export quota.However, what about it after five years later? Will this market shrink again?
